Very noisy with paper thin walls. Loud talking and partying till around 4 am. Very glad I brought ear plugs.
Free Snacks, options to have cheap meals, a cheap bar which didnt seem to make noise on Fri and Sat, surprisingly!
the fact that the self catering kitchen in our apartment was not cleaned properly at all during our 4 day stay...the one tea towel and cloth (between 5 double/twin rooms) stunk and i got a throat infection from eating in there, we asked for clean ones on the second to last day and they only gave us a tea towel, no new washing up cloth! Also, there facilities were bad (tin opener, dirty, old shower, etc)
i like the staff at Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers and their service that they provided me and my friends, i also liked the rooms that i booked , they were big enough for me and my friends and it was very clean. love it!
If you don't care about getting a good night's sleep it's a good place to stay at a good price. The staff was really friendly and helpful.
Very noisy night life outside every day of the week till around 3 am, and till about 6 am on the weekends. There were still drunken people stumbling about at 6:15 am when I was on my way to my race. Didn't get much sleep the whole week I stayed there.
The idea of small appartments with rooms is nice, but if you do not like stinky rooms without windows, you'd better not go to the fat camel. Also I had a bed that missed several bars on the bottem. I rally had to lay still otherwise I would have fallen on the bed (person sleeping in it) below. I'm not too exited about the value for money at the Fat Camel.
Staff were really accommodating when we Wanted to extend our stay. Cheap and great location. Free meal at dinner time :)
Rooms are cold and there is no daylight in the shared kitchens. A few jumpers and some candles helped!
I lived here when I moved over from the UK and had so much fun. Everyone was either working and living there too or passing through as a backpacker. The dorms are set out like apartments with full cooking facilities and communal areas, clean bathrooms, good showers and comfy bunk beds. My room was spacious which was handy having such a big bag. And even as a lone traveller, heading down to the bar for my free dinner wasn't remotely intimidating as there is always soneone that will talk to you and include you in a game of killer pool! Amazing value for money and as good, if not better than other hostels in Auckland.
The bar in the Hostel was very lively and the staff very nice and available. The position is perfect for getting to the most important points of the city (Sky Tower, Haven, CDB).
The rooms were dirty and dusty; the stink in the kitchen, in the corridors and in the rooms was caused from an insufficient clean and the no-opening windows; many rooms have no window at all. Moreover, they're really noisy because of the next door Night Club.
Nothing! The room I booked was not available. They put me in a windowless room that smelled of mildew and had mold growing in the corners. I slept on the couch in the living area that was shared. I ended up getting sick for the next 4couple days or so. It was one of the worst experiences in a hotel, but being a backpacker hotel, its usual. Wont ever stay there again or any nomads!
Customer service was terrible. Our room smelt like feet/dirty washing. Other patrons were disrespectful and noisy.
The staffs were friendly and there most hours of the day, and the location was close to city centre. It was neat that they provided snacks.
The dorms didn't have enough cups/plates/cutlery. We had trouble with the swipe card access which locked us out of the dorm several times a day.
It was comfortable, friendly and the free snack meal was awesome.
Probably the grottiest backpacpackers I have ever stayed at! Broken furniture, worn out carpets cramped showers with no hooks. Paper-thin walls. No way on earth will I stay there again!
moderate sized room friendly staff great location
one bathroom shared by 6 rooms walls not thick enough - can hear even small noises in adjacent rooms
The bar down stairs didn't close till 5am, was so noisy that I didn't sleep till 5am either. Never again...
